    How ScanChess works

    Three parts: scan the game, analyze it, then practice what it shows you. Scanning uses credits; checking, analysis, replay and export are free.

    Read and rule-checked: the one move the reader was unsure of is left for you to look at.

    Scan a scoresheetScan a board image

    1. Take the picture

      Photograph a handwritten scoresheet flat and in even light, or use a screenshot, a book diagram or a top-down photo of a board. JPG, PNG or WebP up to 15 MB; HEIC is not supported.

    2. Upload and scan

      Add the pages of one game in order, up to 10 images, or a single board image. A scoresheet scan costs 2 credits however many pages it has and a board 1; new accounts get 10 free credits.

    3. Check the result

      Every move is replayed on a board: illegal moves are marked red and doubtful ones amber, with the closest legal moves to choose from. For a board, confirm the side to move. Corrections are free.

    4. Save or export

      A scanned game is saved to your games library with its photo. Copy or download the PGN or FEN for Lichess, Chess.com or ChessBase.

    1. Run the analysis

      Stockfish analyzes the game for free and saves the result with it: each side's accuracy, every inaccuracy, mistake and blunder, and the moments the game turned.

    2. Ask the AI coach

      The coach explains the turning points in plain words: what happened, what was better and why. One game a day is free with a verified email; after that it costs 1 credit per game.

    3. Replay and explore

      Step through the moves, try your own ideas on the analysis board or open the game on Lichess. A game you already have as PGN can be imported and analyzed the same way.

    1. Daily practice

      Tactics you missed in your analyzed games become short exercises. Free accounts get 15 a day; Pro has no limit.

    2. Insights

      Your insights profile shows the patterns across your games and can compare your over-the-board play with a linked Lichess or Chess.com account. The full profile, with accuracy over time, phases and mistake types, comes with Pro.

    3. Prepare (Pro)

      Keep opening repertoires and see where a game left them, and scout an opponent's online games to see what they play and where to aim.
