Terms of Service

    Effective date: 2026-06-06

Welcome to ScanChess. These terms ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the ScanChess website and mobile app (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

    Description of the Service

ScanChess is an AI-powered tool that recognizes photos of handwritten scoresheets and chessboards and converts them into standard chess notation (PGN). AI recognition results may contain errors, so please verify the accuracy of the moves before relying on them.

    Accounts

You may need to sign in with Apple or Google to use certain features. You are responsible for safeguarding your account and for all activity that occurs under it.

    Credits and Purchases

    • The Service uses credits for scanning. Each scan consumes a number of credits.
    • You may purchase credits. Except as required by applicable law or the relevant app store policy, purchased credits are non-refundable.
    • Purchases made through the Apple App Store or Google Play are also subject to the respective platform terms and refund policies.

    Acceptable Use

When using the Service, you agree not to:

    • Upload any content that is unlawful, infringing, or that you do not have the right to process.
    • Attempt to disrupt, reverse engineer, or abuse the Service or its underlying systems.
    • Make excessive automated requests or circumvent the credit and billing mechanisms.

    Your Content

You retain ownership of the images you upload. To provide the scanning feature, you grant us a limited license necessary to process those images, including transmitting them to the third-party AI model provider we use for recognition. See our Privacy Policy for details on how images are processed.

    Account Deletion

You can delete your account and associated data at any time using the in-app "Delete Account" feature. Once deleted, this data cannot be recovered.

    Disclaimer

The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that recognition results are fully accurate or that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

    Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, ScanChess shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service.

    Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date at the top. Continued use of the Service means you accept the updated Terms.

    Governing Law

To the extent permitted by applicable law, these Terms are governed by the laws of the relevant jurisdiction. If any part of these Terms is found invalid, the remaining parts remain in effect.
